Fort Takapuna Scenic Reserve

One of the popular Auckland scenic places to visit is the historic Fort Takapuna, with incredible views of the Hauraki Gulf. Opened to the public in 2000, this former defence force land is now a public reserve, with incredible views of Rangitoto Island. Wander around the grassed area and view an underground fort dating back to 1889, built to defend the country from Russia. Guided tours of the fort are available through Forts of Auckland, and on Sundays you can enjoy brunch at The Officers Mess.
